Grade 1- Social Studies
I. Our Natural Resources , Let's Take Care of Them
A. Our Land forms
     1. Plateau- a large and flat landform on top of the mountain; serves as the grazing ground of our animals.
     2. Mountain- the highest landform
     3. Volcano - a mountain that erupts and has an opening at the top called crater.
     4. Plain - a wide flat lowland ; open and has rich soil for farming
     5. Mountain Range - group of mountains that is connected to one another
     6. Valley - a flat land between the mountains
B. Our Minerals / Our Forest
     We have different mineral deposits in the country like gold, silver, copper, nickel, iron, oil, petroleum,        crude oil, rocks, ,sand, gravel, cement and marbles.
C. Our Water Resources
      Our country  is very rich in different waterforms  like oceans, seas, waterfalls, lakes, spring and brooks.

I. Maps, Directions and Symbols
  A. Primary and Secondary Directions
  B. Symbols or Markers Used in Maps


  • A map is a flat paper which shows location of objects and places.
  • The four primary directions are North,  East, West and South.
  • The direction where the sun rises is called  East.
  • The direction where the sun sets is called West.
  • When facing the East , the direction on your left is called North while the direction on your right is called is called South.
  • The secondary directions are found between two primary directions.
  • The secondary directions are Northeast (NE),Northwest (NW), Southwest (SW) and Southeast (SE).
