Do you enjoy tongue-tangling words?
What do we call these words? What are the benefits that we can get from tongue
twisters?
Tongue Twister - a word or group of words difficult to articulate rapidly,
usually because of a succession of similar consonantal sounds.
It is a phrase or
sentence which is hard to speak fast, usually because of alliteration or a
sequence of nearly similar sounds. It helps develop speech skills & helps
in speech therapy. To get the full effect of a tongue
twister you should try to repeat it several times, as quickly as possible,
without stumbling or mispronouncing.
Tongue Twisters are
used more to improve flexibility in the mouth, lips, and jaw. This leads to
(2)two benefits:
1) improved diction
and enunciation,
2) greater ability to
properly form vowels in order to produce a clearer tone.
Read aloud the tongue twisters below. Pronounce
[d] and [ǒ] sounds correctly.
1.
Don’t trust one who thrusts a thrush in a trash can. (repeat 3x)
2.
Don’t let her litter her letter, for by letting her litter her letter, the
letters she will litter will double in a year. (repeat 3x)
3.
