COMPOUND WORDS
A compound word is
formed by putting two or more words together. There are three kinds of compound
words.
1. Closed –
written as one word, like rainbow,thunderstorm, raincoat
2. Open –
written separately, like ice cream, fairy tale, school year
3. Hyphenated
– joined by a hyphen, like twenty-two, life-size, one-sided
Look
at each picture on page 131, activity 3-A. In the blank, write the compound word that names
the object in the picture. (not recorded)

Words with opposite
meanings are called antonyms.
