Rules in Forming the Plural of Nouns
1. We add -s to most nouns to form their plural
Examples:
    chair - chairs             teacher - teachers
    house - houses         dog - dogs

2. We add -es to nouns ending in s,ss,ch,sh, and x to make them plural.
Examples:
    church - churches          brush - brushes
    box - boxes                   glass - glasses

3. We form the plural of nouns ending in f or fe by changing f or fe to y and add -es.
Examples:
    loaf - loaves                  leaf - leaves
   knife - knives                 wife - wives

4. We form the plural of nouns ending in a consonant and y by changing y to i and adding -es.
Examples:
    baby - babies               daisy - daisies
    city - cities                    lady  - ladies

5. We form the plural of  nouns ending in a vowel and y by adding -s.
Examples:
     key - keys                   way - ways
     ray  - rays                   monkey - monkeys

  • We use a few with nouns that can be counted.

Examples:
       a few sticks           a few spoons        a few students


  • We use a little with nouns that can not be counted.

Examples:
        a little sugar           a little pepper        a little soy sauce
